Birds, bees and bats: Exploring possibilities for cohabitation in the more-than-human city

Urbanization pressures are creating conditions for greater urban density. However, cities home both humans and a diversity of nonhuman natures, where heightened proximity between species can cause friction conflict. This paper explores possibilities convivial multispecies cohabitation in more-than-human cities. It grounds theory through the application three case studies – birds, bees bats based city Trondheim, Norway. Drawing on related studies, these creatures help illuminate what kind spaces, needs considerations required beyond human-centric focus environment. Issues to consider include disease, insecure land access unpredictable complex feedback loops, while benefits from natures sources wellbeing, food wonder.
